The “Pathway to Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Cooling” report will include a global HVAC&R product list featuring technologies that use natural (or no) refrigerants.
Brussels, Belgium (July 2, 2020) – A new and exciting project examining the pathway to zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the global cooling sector has been launched as a collaboration between the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program (K-CEP), the Cool Coalition, the Carbon Trust and the COP26 High-Level Champions.*
As part of this project, a “Pathway to Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Cooling” report will be written, which includes a global product list featuring HVAC&R technologies that use natural (or no) refrigerants. As such, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and shecco are reaching out to manufacturers around the world to submit their best products in various HVAC&R sub-sectors.
The list will be shared with major end users with the aim of encouraging non-state actors to invest in these technologies. It will also be used to identify sub-sectors where more development is required in order to meet the Pathway to Zero requirements for cooling in the future.
Products will be collected under eight main sectors: domestic, commercial, industrial, and transport refrigeration; and domestic, commercial, industrial, and mobile air conditioning. In sectors where there is an abundance of qualifying products, the information will be presented as a prescriptive guideline for end users instead of a set product list.
Companies will be allowed to submit multiple products if they so choose – at no cost. The minimum criterion for submission is that the product should use either no refrigerants or natural refrigerants (i.e. non-synthetic refrigerants). Preference will be given to products with proven energy efficiency features (such as suitable energy labels and high coefficient of performance/COP ratings) – if available/applicable.
*This project supports the work of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action and in particular the Climate Action Pathways which outline the longer-term vision for a 1.5°C climate-resilient world from the perspective of non-party stakeholders and sets out actions needed to achieve that future.

About shecco
For the past 17 years, market accelerator shecco has been active in helping bring climate-friendly technologies faster to market. Today, shecco supports over 100 partners worldwide in the HVAC&R sector, where the focus is on clean cooling, which includes sustainable refrigeration, heating and cooling technologies using natural refrigerants. shecco offers a variety of services in three areas: 1) media, including online industry platforms, magazines and a catalog of dedicated research reports; 2) market development, including market research, consultancy and public affairs services, as well as special international projects; and 3) events, including international conferences and national workshops.
About EIA
The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) investigates and campaigns against environmental crime and abuses. Our undercover investigations expose transnational wildlife crime, with a focus on elephants, pangolins and tigers, and forest crimes such as illegal logging and deforestation for cash crops such as palm oil; we work to safeguard global marine ecosystems by tackling plastic pollution, exposing illegal fishing and seeking an end to all whaling; and we address the threat of global warming by campaigning to curtail powerful refrigerant greenhouse gases and exposing related criminal trade
