SHECCO GUIDE PUTS GLOBAL TRANSCRITICAL CO2 INSTALLATIONS AT 35,000+

June 18, 2020Featured, NewsTine Christiansen

Part 2 shecco’s free-to-download “World Guide to Transcritical CO2 Refrigeration” was published on 18 June, showcasing detailed information on the number of installations globally – and much more.

Brussels, Belgium (June 18, 2020) – Part 2 (of 3) focusses specifically on the transcritical CO2 market today, sharing data from a global industry survey as well as an in-depth data collection drive that engaged manufacturers around the world. This section (comprising three chapters) also includes a policy update, and more specific trends relating to convenience store applications and more traditional commercial refrigeration ones. Various partner case studies are also featured to showcase this technology in action.

“As the use of transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems increases at a rapid rate around the world, it has become apparent that there is great need for reliable information from a neutral source,” explained Ilana Koegelenberg, Market Development Manager at shecco, publisher of the guide.

To that end, sheccoBASE (the market development and research brand of shecco) has undertaken an extensive market study to analyze the current state of the global industry and various trends. “Our hope is that the guide will serve as a resource to help drive the accelerated uptake of this highly sustainable and energy efficient HVAC&R technology,” said Koegelenberg.

When sheccoBASE started collecting data in 2008, the team counted only 140 transcritical CO2 systems – all of which were in Europe. Today, this number is an estimated more than 35,000 systems globally as the accelerated phase down of harmful fluorinated refrigerants drives the search for a more climate-friendly alternative.

“The global HVAC&R market is changing, and it is crucial to keep up with the latest industry trends and technologies,” added Koegelenberg. As such, this guide will specifically look at the potential of transcritical CO2 – today and in the future. “The aim is to help accelerate the uptake of this climate-neutral, sustainable refrigeration technology around the world.”

Part 1 was published in May and highlights the history of CO2, its key characteristics, basic system descriptions, and a chapter on practical, real-life transcritical CO2 applications around the world. Download Part 1.

The complete guide, including Part 3, will be live by the end of July 2020, and launched with a webinar. Part 3 will look at industrial applications as well as future market trends, including barriers and drivers for the uptake of transcritical CO2 around the world.
