New York, N.Y., October 18, 2018 – Henningsen Cold Storage, at its Grandview, Wash.-based cold-storage warehouse, has installed one of the first industrial refrigeration systems in the U.S. that uses only carbon dioxide (CO₂), a climate-friendly refrigerant, reports the October 2018 issue of Accelerate America, published online this week.

Hillsboro, Ore.-based Henningsen installed its first transcritical CO₂ refrigeration in June, 2018, at its new Grandview cold-storage plant, and followed up in September with a second such system at an existing warehouse in Scranton, Pa. These systems represent a bold departure from Henningsen’s traditional ammonia systems, and will be evaluated for performance and reliability over the next year.
