ACCELERATE AMERICA EXAMINES THE POLICY QUAGMIRE PREVENTING THE U.S. GOVERNMENT FROM REGULATING HARMFUL HFC GASES

June 11, 2018Featured, NewsEda Isaksson

Portland, Oregon, June 11, 2018 – The cover story of the June-July 2018 issue of Accelerate America, published online this week, explains how the EPA, Congress, and the White House, as well as the state of California, are navigating a “policy quagmire” regarding the regulation of harmful hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants.

Published 10 times annually by shecco, the worldwide expert in natural refrigerant news, Accelerate America is the first news magazine written for and about the most progressive business leaders working with climate-friendly natural refrigerants in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Accelerate America is viewable online at no charge at http://www.acceleratena.com. In addition, print copies are distributed at major North American trade shows serving the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) and refrigeration industries, and mailed to key end users in food retail, foodservice, cold storage, food processing and other sectors.

By limiting the EPA’s authority over harmful HFC gases, a Court of Appeals ruling last year threw the U.S. regulatory landscape for refrigerants into disarray for manufacturers and end users of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Since then the EPA, Congress and the White House as well as states like California and New York have been grappling with how to regulate and ultimately phase down HFCs so that natural refrigerants like carbon dioxide (CO2), propane and ammonia can take their place.

The June-July 2018 issue (volume 4, No. 36) also reports on: a California Whole Foods Market store’s unique propane/CO2 refrigeration system; a Belgium store that uses reclaimed heat from its CO2 refrigeration system in a rooftop greenhouse; and the shift among many equipment manufacturers serving the restaurant industry to propane refrigeration.

Also featured: Carnot Refrigeration’s transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems for industrial refrigeration; how to measure the efficiency of a refrigeration system; and lessons learned from a low-charge ammonia installation.
