Portland, Oregon, May 15, 2018 – Hydrocarbon refrigerants in self-contained refrigeration display cases have gained considerable traction in North American food retail and foodservice outlets while the hydrocarbon isobutane is expected to be used in home fridges. Why this is happening is explained in the May 2018 issue of Accelerate America, published online this week.
Published 10 times annually by shecco, the worldwide expert in natural refrigerant news, Accelerate America is the first news magazine written for and about the most progressive business leaders working with climate-friendly natural refrigerants in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Accelerate America is viewable online at no charge at http://www.acceleratena.com. In addition, print copies are distributed at major North American trade shows serving the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) and refrigeration industries, and mailed to key end users in food retail, foodservice, cold storage, food processing and other sectors.
Hydrocarbon refrigeration systems offer many advantages, including energy efficiency, ease of maintenance and flexible positioning. But the flammability of hydrocarbons puts limitations on the amount (charge) that can be used. If, as expected, charge limits on hydrocarbons are raised, then they will likely become an even more important factor in stores and homes.
The May 2018 issue (volume 4, No. 35) also reports on: the growing use of CO2 as a refrigerant by Canadian food retailer Longo’s; the EPA’s new effort to regulate HFC refrigerants; and contractor Eastern Refrigeration’s CO2 installations at New England stores.
Also featured: CO2 systems at the traditionally ammonia-focused IIAR Conference; M&M Refrigeration’s new low-charge ammonia packaged systems; and the Department of Energy’s partnership with natural refrigerant manufacturers.
