Portland, Oregon, March 14, 2018:  KPAC General, a California cold-storage operator, has installed an industrial refrigeration system at its new state-of-the-art facility that, unlike traditional systems, dramatically reduces the amount (charge) of ammonia refrigerant. KPAC General’s ultra-low-charge ammonia refrigeration system consists of eight packaged rooftop units from NXTCOLD, which deliver cold air at varying temperatures to freezer and refrigerated rooms as well as the dock area. The amount of ammonia used by the units ranges from 30 to 47 gallons, compared to 1,000 to 1,200 gallons in a traditional ammonia system serving the same refrigeration load. This reduced charge improves safety and keeps the facility out of the range of many federal and state regulations.
