HEAT PUMP WATER HEATERS USING CO2 REFRIGERANT SAVE ENERGY AT SEATTLE APARTMENT COMPLEX – DETAILS IN NEW ACCELERATE AMERICA

January 17, 2018Featured, NewsEda Isaksson

Portland, Oregon, January 17, 2018: Seattle’s Kingway Apartments has become one of the first U.S. end users of climate-friendly, energy-saving heat pump water heaters using CO2, introduced to the North American market by Japanese manufacturer Sanden. How that came to pass is explained in the January 2018 issue of Accelerate America, published online this week.

Published 10 times annually by shecco, the worldwide expert in natural refrigerant news, Accelerate America is the first news magazine written for and about the most progressive business leaders working with climate-friendly natural refrigerants in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Accelerate America is viewable online at no charge at http://www.acceleratena.com. In addition, print copies are distributed at major North American trade shows serving the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) and refrigeration industries, and mailed to key end users in food retail, foodservice, cold storage, food processing and other sectors.

The installation of CO2 heat pump water heaters at Kingway Apartments (owned by Bellwether Housing) was made possible by the HomeWise Program, part of the City of Seattle’s Office of Housing. Charlie Rogers, its property rehabilitation specialist, oversaw the installation at Kingway last year, including grant funding that paid for the project. He estimates that the 24 town homes using the water heaters will save 81,500 kWh annually compared to the previously used electric resistance water heaters – or about $300 per year per town home.

The January 2018 issue (volume 4, No. 31) also reports on: 2018 predictions by industry stakeholders; how Price Chopper is leveraging the Internet of Things; innovative refrigeration systems from four startups; California’s 2017 Climate Change Scoping Plan; and a preview of the AHR Expo.

Also featured: A new network connecting end users with natural refrigerant contractors; a program to recruit veterans and military personnel as refrigeration technicians; advice on retaining technicians; how UNIDO helped Mexico destroy its stockpiles of ozone-depleting substances.
