Melbourne, March 29, 2017: Managing Director for shecco Asia/Pacific, Jan Dusek, revealed major market trends at the renowned Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating’s (AIRAH) Refrigeration 2017 conference, held in Melbourne, Australia on March 27 and 28.

The market is also moving towards natural refrigerants in Australia, and the feedback we got after the presentation is that sharing the latest intelligence was very useful as a benchmark and encourage further development” Dusek said.
Representatives from Australia and New Zealand’s largest retailers and contractors, system and component suppliers, as well as policy makers and industry experts took part in this conference.
Drawing from shecco’s in-depth market intelligence, Dusek spoke about the most recent and up-to-date policy, market, and technology developments regarding natural refrigerants from around the world. Topics presented also included Australia’s HFC phase down schedule, regulatory updates, the state of training, and the industry’s responsibility for contributing to the country’s net-zero carbon emission future.
International policy and market updates
Dusek gave an overview of global policies, including plans to review the F-Gas Regulation in Europe, the leadership of California with ambitious HFC reductions targets and recommended alternatives to R22 in China, with natural refrigerants as preferred options for a clear majority of applications. “The direction China wants to go is clear and there is no doubt it will have a significant impact on the global HVAC&R industry”, Dusek added, referring also to China’s role in pushing towards global standards for the sector.
Dusek presented the latest natural refrigerant technology developments showcased at EuroShop 2017, as well as key market trends shecco is seeing around the world. In an especially important point for the Australian audience, Dusek pointed out that CO2 is continuing to show impressive efficiency results in warm ambient climates.
Dusek also gave an overview of the growth of hydrocarbon-based systems for light commercial applications. Answering questions about any potential increase in hydrocarbon charge limits, Dusek confirmed that, “Yes, there is currently an on-going discussion about increasing the charge limit for hydrocarbons.”
“What’s on the table right now is an increase to a 500g limit. It’s very likely that this will conclude by the end of 2017 or early 2018”, he concluded.
