Produced by shecco Media, the global experts in natural refrigerant news, Accelerate Europe is the first quarterly news magazine written for and about Europe’s most progressive business leaders working with climate-friendly natural refrigerants, from milder northern European regions to its warmer southern climates.
The mission of our new magazine is to help advance the adoption of natural refrigerants – such as carbon dioxide, ammonia, propane, isobutene, water and air – by showcasing and informing readers of their use in a wide range of HVAC and refrigeration applications across a variety of industry sectors.
“Accelerate Europe is the place to showcase the best that the natural refrigerant industry can offer, and to demonstrate to the world that our sector is part of the climate solution,” said Accelerate Europe Editor Andrew Williams, who joined shecco Media in December.
“I’m excited to be joining shecco Europe at such a fascinating time for our sector. I look forward to meeting more of our readers in the coming months, as we continue to report on cutting-edge developments from manufacturers and users of natural refrigerant technologies,” Williams added.
Brewing giant SABMiller blazing a trail for natural refrigerants
For this second edition, Accelerate Europe visits André Fourie, Head of Water Security & Environmental Value at SABMiller, at his Woking (UK) base to hear how the global brewing giant is putting natural refrigerants at the heart of its efforts to put the world on a more sustainable development path.
Fourie outlines how using natural refrigerants makes financial and commercial sense for companies like SABMiller, which has committed to using them in 100% of its fridges by 2020.
Also in Issue 2: Read how Switzerland’s biggest retailer Migros is aiming to become a leader in climate protection and energy savings by adopting state-of-the-art CO2 refrigeration technology. Daniel Duss, head of building and technology at Migros Luzern, tells Accelerate Europe how Migros’ partnership with system engineering expert Frigo-Consulting helped its Ibach store to save 45% energy while setting new benchmarks for using ejectors across Europe.
Meanwhile, Chris Sturman, chief executive of the UK Food Storage and Distribution Federation, spoke to Accelerate Europe about how ammonia is becoming a viable long-term alternative to HFCs in the European food logistics sector. Sturman sees the market at a crossroads: expand its uptake of low-GWP HFCs and repeat history, or do a full-360 and return to tried and tested ammonia systems.
F-gas restrictions triggering natural refrigerants boom
Until now, many industry players have reported that the EU F-Gas Regulation has had only a subdued impact on the market. But as the decisive year of 2018 looms closer – with its deadline for reducing use of high-GWP HFCs by 44% – the search for alternatives is intensifying. For Issue 2, Accelerate Europe visited the ACR Show – the UK’s only event for the HVAC&R industry – to chart the impact this increased impetus is having on companies large and small.

Europe edition adds to growing portfolio of Accelerates
Launched in December 2015, Accelerate Europe is shecco Media’s third magazine dedicated to covering the natural refrigerant sector in a specific region of the world. It follows the successful launches of the monthly Accelerate America magazine in 2014 and the bimonthly Accelerate Japan earlier in 2015.
Look out for the next addition to the Accelerate family, Accelerate Australia & New Zealand, set for launch in the first half of 2016.
