Market Trends for Sustainable Refrigerants in Europe & North America: shecco presents at Gustav Lorentzen Conference

July 26, 2012NewsAdmin Shecco

At the 10th Gustav Lorentzen Conference held in Delft, the Netherlands, from 25-27 June, shecco presented a technical paper on the market outlooks for the European and North American HVAC&R industry, based on two surveys it had been conducting in 2011 and 2012. As a Gold Sponsor, shecco was also present with a booth to present its services to the interested audience.

Nina Masson, Head of Market Research for shecco, presented a paper during the “Emissions Policy” section held on 26 June to contrast the North American and European HVAC&R industries in their market forecasts for HFC-free solutions. Technician training and a general lack of awareness remain important barriers to the adoption of more sustainable technology, the paper concluded. The exclusive insights presented in Delft were based on two shecco surveys, a global one and a North American one, with the latter still running.

The two world regions with highest immediate adoption potential for natural refrigerant solutions, Europe and North America, share a common view on the challenges that lie ahead for the heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry. Both regions, despite their very different starting points when it comes to the adoption of HFC-free technology, point to training and technician know-how regarding installation, maintenance and energy optimization, as the most outstanding stumbling block for faster market uptake of natural refrigerants. This is despite North American confidence that it will become a world leader in such technology in the near future.

“What we see is that there is clear momentum building up in both markets, for some applications more than for others. We need to proactively work on the barriers identified in the world’s first surveys on natural refrigerants. shecco will continue launching dedicated publications for different regions and end uses, to help better understand market dynamics. Reactions show us that this information is needed and valued both by the HVAC&R industry and its customers, but likewise by national and international policy bodies trying to find viable alternatives to ozone-depleting and high global-warming substances,” Masson states.

About the GUIDEs to Natural Refrigerants

In 2011, shecco conducted the world’s first global survey on the market prospects for HFC-free technology solutions with more than 1,200 responses received. The results for the European market were published this February in the free “GUIDE to Natural Refrigerants 2012 – Market Growth for Europe”. Since February the publication had 83,000+ pages viewed only online. The result is available from http://guide.shecco.com

The results from the North American survey will follow in a new “GUIDE” on the US-American, Canadian and Mexican markets, launched later this year. To be able to draw solid conclusions shecco is still looking for more input. If you have operations in North America, please fill in the survey: http://guide.shecco.com.

shecco supports Gustav Lorentzen Conference as Gold Sponsor

To demonstrate its commitment to bringing natural refrigerants “faster to market” shecco supported the 10th GL Conference as a Gold Sponsor. A dedicated booth informed participants about its growing range of services including market research, industry platforms, public affairs and events management.
