shecco is proud to be one of six European partners joining forces in the “ELEVTRA” project supported by the European Life Long Learning programme. The project’s ultimate goal is to develop a professional profile of electro mechanics with specialization on the maintenance and repair of electric vehicles and charging stations. A first kick-off meeting in November attracted wide interest from the media.
E-mobility has become a high priority topic for most of Europe’s policy makers that have pushed zero-emissions cars, scooters and bicycles up the political agenda. But whereas the technological and economic challenges have been widely discussed the urgently needed training of professionals involved in the emerging industry has so far not been focused upon. The “ELEVTRA – Electric Vehicle Training” project, officially launched in October 2011, sets out to avoid the anticipated lack of qualified personnel to maintain and repair both electric vehicles and charging stations in Europe and beyond.
Selected as one of only 37 projects to be funded by the European Life Long Learning Programme (Leonardo da Vinci) – out of a total of more than 300 applications received – ELEVTRA will develop a professional profile of electronics technicians with expertise on electric vehicles and charging stations. More concretely, the 3 year long project will develop an e-learning platform, an e-course and hands-on exercises to validate the quality of the vocational education and training (VET) didactic material.
As ELEVTRA’s dissemination partner shecco will be responsible for the development of the project’s graphical identity, the building and maintenance of the official website, the exploitation of results through effective liaising with media, and for organizing a final seminar in October 2014 with the widest possible participation of decision makers from the automotive industry, supranational and national legislators, as well as training institutes.
“shecco is proud to contribute with its expertise to the successful development of the ELEVTRA project. Specialised training for EV professionals is a much needed but unfortunately not yet highly prioritized area to ensure a sustained growth of the electric vehicle market. Through cars21.com and its wide industry network, shecco will help all project partners to communicate widely major milestones over the coming three years, as well as engage leading automotive manufacturers to take advantage of the developed curricula for training future maintenance personnel,” says Nina Burhenne, Head of Market Research and ELEVTRA project coordinator for shecco.
The project consortium
shecco is only one of six partners from five European countries to develop and disseminate training courses and case studies. Besides the project leader Fundación Metal Asturias (FMA) – one of the largest vocational education and training providers in Northern Spain – the other project partners come from Germany (University of Applied Sciences Bochum), Slovenia (Solski center Velenje), Spain (Movilidad Sostenible mov-e) and the Czech Republic (Integrovana stredni skola automobilni ISSA Brno).
The kick-off meeting organised by FMA in Gijón on 10-11 November 2011 attracted large interest by the Spanish national and regional media who lauded ELEVTRA as a prerequisite for building a strong electric vehicle industry in Spain, Europe and beyond.
